Every now and again, I’ll do some drawing exercises where I grab some photos from my collection or from the internet and work on my drawing techniques. I am continually inspired by the work of Kim Jung Gi, this phenomenal Korean artist who creates these incredibly detailed drawings with pen, from memory.
I want that skill. I’m working on it very slowly, but i think I might be able to get there one of these days. Here are the pieces I have produced.
If you watch the video, you will notice that this guy goes in straight with a brush pen and doesn’t do any under drawing at all, so that’s what I tried to do. These are the ones I did most recently, using my Pentel Sign Pen. It’s my new favorite because of its flexible brush-like nib. While I love a good brush pen (Pentel makes a great one) they take a little too much control at times and I wanted something a bit easier to use. I recommend trying it out.
