There’s a park in Miraflores called Kennedy Park, named after John F Kennedy himself. It’s a rather nice park where a lot of the locals hang out with their kids and where artists and artisans have places to sell their wares. There’s a mini amphitheater and some scattered sculptures and beautiful flower gardens. But the most distinguishing feature of the park was it’s overabundance of cats. So many cats! I’ve never seen that many in one place before.
These cats were skinny, dirty, they looked drugged out, one was missing an eye…. Some were healthy and cute, though, which is probably why people were playing with them. Little kids would pick them up and carry them to their moms who would scratch between their ears and give them little kisses. Teenage girls would stop to pet them.
I stopped to sketch one of the cats and managed to gather quite the crowd around me. They dispersed when the cat got up and left.
I switched to people watching for a while, but just couldn’t leave those cats alone.
I’m going to have to find out the story behind this whole thing. I’ll let you know when I know.
