Portraits

So I’ve been busy setting up my print shop, marketing my shirts and wallets, putting on art shows and basically putting my energy in making wearable art, and what gets popular all of a sudden? My portraits. Believe me when I say, this is not a complaint. I LOVE painting portraits. It’s just a funny old world. These pieces have been surprise gifts for people, so I couldn’t post them right away. Then when I did, I got all caught up in the ease of posting on Instagram and forgot to put them here. So here are some of the things I’ve been working on.

My friend Dalen is a wedding photographer. We decided to collaborate and offer portraits as part of the wedding package. This is a sample I painted based on her photo.

I’m very happy with how these paintings came out. In doing the wedding one, I discovered I should probably stop painting on paper, since I use a lot of water and that makes it fold up, so I’ve been working on cold-press illustration board ever since. I love the near-photographic quality the illustration board gives to the painting due to the texture that’s already there. I think it will become my standard moving forward.
