Good morning, friends of Afro Triangle! Last night, I made an important discovery about myself. I should NOT drink oolong tea after 8 pm. Seriously, I was awake most of the night. Part of the problem is that my wife and I are reading this book called The Art of Asking, by Amanda Palmer. In it, she describes her rise to become a rock B lister and how her relationship with her fans helped her get there. She has this uncanny ability to trust humanity to provide everything from a place to crash in a gig city, to instruments, to chicken soup when she’s sick on stage. It’s quite amazing, actually.
It got me thinking…. I’m very good about sharing my art, but not so good at sharing myself. That is why Amanda Palmer can trust her fans so much. They feel like they know her and want to help. While I am not ready to tell you guys my deepest, darkest secrets, or what I had for breakfast, I realized that I can give you more of me.
I had started talking to you more while traveling, but it was all business when I came home. I want to come back around to telling you guys about what I’ve learned on this crazy journey called life. You are welcome to tell me as well. Let’s open up a dialogue. I commit to writing or sharing something every morning, first thing when I wake up. It’s a daunting task, but think I’m up for it.
